Test of RSS Feed

Tasmania's State Library has a RSS feed with each individual search. My search for "camellias" resulted in 62 records. Refining the search by topic: camellias resulted in 23 useful records. The RSS symbol appears at the top of the screen next to the search results.  An option is available to subscribe to this feed. Accessed 27 May 2014

What's New

RSS Discovery Exercise

What do I like about the idea of RSS?

I like receiving up-to-date selected content without the advertisements. Also having selected content coming to me instead of me chasing it.

How do you think you might be able to use this technology in your personal life?

RSS feeds from professional groups would keep me aware of events and trends within my profession. I can view hobby sites when there's new information.

How can libraries use RSS or take advantage of this technology?

RSS can inform libraries of new online courses offered by educational organisations. IT support can be informed of updated software and hardware.

Slideshare

My experience of uploading the "Big 6" powerpoint presentation was smooth enough but I forgot to view it before sending it out into the world. Oops. I forgot to set the attribution details.  Downloading was harder. At first I couldn't find my powerpoint among 33,000+ other slideshares.  Even after filtering there were too many to find mine. Finally I tried searching Users by my Flickr username and there it was. So here is my presentation.

The information in this powerpoint slide show was contained in webcast "Information Literacy" by Dr Mike Eisenberg". http://uweoconnect.extn.washington.edu/publicmbeinfolit

One slideshow I liked was the following. There are many design ideas which we can use in our blogs. I hope you can find something useful here. Some are cartoon images, some text displays, one looked like a photo album, another had beautiful colours. Josie

Another slideshow reminded me to keep slide information simple and visually attractive. This is because we loose interest when there is too much text on the page/screen. Sometimes a visual can communicate better than text. Josie
